Some psycho killed a cat in UP.
Let me correct that statement, psychopaths supposedly don’t know the difference between right or wrong. His blog post of the event (now made private but is thankfully saved in its original form here) shows that he does know the difference between right and wrong.
The murderer is identified as Joseph Carlo Candare, also known as JC. He is studying for a degree in BS Applied Physics at UP Diliman. Some people actually vouch for his “niceness”, but the truth is that he has a very dark side to his nature. In his own words, he describes the process of his crime:
I pulled it on its tail and threw it. Then like some pro wrestler I jumped on it and my feet landed on it’s torso. Slam! Felt good! But the cat didn’t die, well not yet. It ran for it’s life and just as I was about to catch up on it somebody yelled: “Pwede bang pabayaan mo yung pusa?!”
Won’t you leave the cat alone!
The bravado of his post just sickens me. I won’t be posting anymore flak about his crime. Googling his name would show that the Internet is currently abuzz about him. He is now facing murder, bomb, kidnap, and gay rape threats among others. As for me, I just hope disciplinary action would deal justice on him. Here’s his half-cooked apology that still sounds, hmmm, arogant?:
So there you go I’m sorry. And I wont be striking another one for maybe about a month. It feels good when your beating it(a cat) up but you suddenly feel something strange when it turns off permanently. That’s how I feel right now. And maybe for the next days. Dang, am I a cat serial killer?
Apparently, this boy has some deep psychiatric issues. He seems to be budding a serial killer tendency. He has an urge, a sick urge, that could only be satisfied by cat murder. Heck! This guy is dangerous. Better lock him up fast, and rehabilitate him.
PS I’m sure the cat is now at peace, but as to his safety and reputation — he’ll have Hell to face with in the following days.

I’m not questioning his intellect. I don’t care even if he’s Newton or Einstein. I think this guy needs help, and fast! Killing of animals to satisfy an urge is one indicator of serial killing in the future.
Problem was, that cat was no “ordinary” stray. Heck! It could be the cat I once petted near NIP. If the cat he killed is male, white, and has blue eyes; then this gets personal…
If not, then he still has other people who have come to care about the cat to contend with…

Please don’t compare this murderer to an apathetic truck driver. And don’t even get me started with the whole “killing rats makes things even” subject.
Candare had brutal, prejudicial, and hateful intent to kill any cat he came across. He enjoyed it. He found ways to beat them up with pleasure, and surely he found much needed recreation from all of it. Your truck driver? Just runs over a cat coz he’s standing or lying on the road. Deed is done. No hate, no killer mindset, just moving along. In short, he just doesn’t give a shit and didn’t go out of his way to kill anything weaker than himself. Rats are pests filled with bacteria and rabies. Nuff said.

He just couldn’t stop himself from acting out his strange desire. And judging from the hate he has earned in the blogsphere, he does know that what he did was very grave. Being his friend, you should convince him to seek professional help.

but what i do wish is that people would ease up on spreading his name. what’s probably gonna happen next is that he’d receive punishment by law and maybe undergo therapy. so after that, what’s next? because of this issue (or rather, his identity) being blown up out of proportion, there’s less of a chance for him to be accepted in society once he is ready. and what more, his family is also affected, which is unfair.

I’m a UP student, and a cat lover. And it’s completely unacceptable for another UP student to kill a helpless animal. Candare may have a high IQ, but his EQ is way below the dumps.
Why won’t he channel his anger to something else? I’ve been picking up and adopting stray kittens in UP in my four years there, and some angry student just kills them? How apathetic!

Stop the hate guys.
The law is the law, and punishment for animal cruelty should be carried out to show that the law DOES work around here despite what most of us would think.
Joseph Candare may be a gifted math and physics student, but this does not excuse him from the law.
It’s true that hardly anyone does anything when a cat, dog or other hapless animal gets run-over by unscrupulous motorists, and we ourselves are prone to the occasional animal murder–whether it be pests like mosquitoes, flies, ants, rats or whatever. Those are still animals regardless of their specie or size.
Animal torture however, is a completely different matter. Whatever drove JC Candare to brutalize that helpless cat, we cannot let our outrage get the better of us and make us overly judgemental. I am a U.P. Diliman alumnus myself, and we have the responsibility to be of sensible minds. Allowing ourselves to get carried away will make us no better than him.
Stop the mud slinging here and lets just support the law and hope that it will be carried out, and that JC Candare will be held accountable for his actions.

I just found out about this horrible incident. This just proves just because you are book smart does not mean you possess intelligence. He should be publicly shamed during his entire stay in U.P.
That was cruelty. What he did was inexcusible. I used to be a U.P. student too and we had cats (UPcat and baby-UPcat) and we never treated them any different. His act, served no purpose but to satisfy his own ignorance and stupidity.
And no, he isn’t a genuis. Anyone with an intelligence quotient higher than zero would not have done that.
And as one of the posts mentioned, an eye for an eye may not be the answer, but in real life there are consequences to stupid choices.

simula nung mamatay yung aso namin, lagi nang may nakakasok na pusa sa likod ng bahay namin (open kasi) paanog di ka maiinis sa mga pusa kung:
-pumasok sila sa likod ng bahay nmin at kinuha ung naiwang pagkain sa mesa
-nung nakawala yung love bird namin, nalaman ko na lang sumunod na araw kinain ng pusa ung ibon namin
-ang kaawa awang ibon na bagong panganak na nasa nakatagong pugad ay wlang awang kinain ng pusang iyun
Ngayon dapat pa ba akong maawa sa mga pusa o dapat silang puksain na parang mga peste??!!

Candero, why do you have to do such a thing? We actually need stray cats in up in order to prolong their kin. Well not as pets but for science. Students enrolled in a comparative anatomy subject need cats to be dissected. I recommend Candero to enroll in bio 102 so that he wont be judged for mutilating cats. Heck, he’ll learn more ways on how to murder one. Plus, if he gets tired of Felis, he gets to mutilate other animal species. And the best part is, its legal! PAWS aint got nothing if its for science. Unless if its animal testing. That’s bad. Euthanasia however, is good. Along with pouching, slaughtering, injecting hormones, “canning” and all other agricultural and scientific “lesser evil” stuff. You can all go and hug a tree or something.

I am yet another UP student voicing out what I think, but doesn’t anyone here realize how IRRELEVANT ‘being a UP student’ is to this matter. Why does everyone seem so vocal about being a UP student in this thread when it’s not even really connected to what happened. He tortured a helpless cat and in our country, it’s against the law. He should be punished. That’s all there is to it.

I agree with Admin, this guy has a serious problem. he said so himself, he’s elated at the thought of killing cats even happier when he kills one plus that inexplicable hatred for cats. as for the first post trying to defend the act by justifying killing rats is the same as that, I had hopes that you would have a more logical argument, taga UP ka pa din naman, besides, when you kill rats do you resort to stepping on them jumping on them or even torturing them before they die? di ba mouse trap kagad kase nga pests sila, it isn’t the same situation for cats. When you kill a rat, do you telll it to everyone and tell exactly the details on how you killed it? we kill rats because they’re pests. But Mr. Candare killed a cat for ENJOYMENT. Actually, looking at the case deeper, this really isn’t about rescuing a cat…It’s rescuing Mr. Joseph Candare from being a serial killer. I do not care if he’s a graduate of UP, a math prodigy, or a physics genius. To “a normally sane person”, we kill rats because they’re pests. We kill them to prevent them from eating our food BUT we don’t blog that we do to rats, do we? In Mr. Candare’s case, he ENJOYED killing the poor cat; he enjoyed inflicting pain on a harmless creature. Is this normal? He is still young and he can kill cats, so we can never tell what more he can kill in the future.
And looking at this case deeper, it’s not really about merely rescuing a cat, it is rescuing Mr. Candare from being a criminal in the future

There is a subtle difference between an ignorant truck driver who accidentally killed a cat and a supposedly genius student who deliberately killed a defenseless cat for his own pleasure.
First off, we’re not talking about how academically inclined he is. He could be Einstein, but for all I care, he’s just another psychopath who needs help. We are not talking about his credentials here anyway, what we’re talking about is his heartless act of murder to a cat, and how he so proudly displayed it in his modest blog.
Also, a rat is a rat and a cat is a cat. Rats are disease ridden animals who spread viruses and sickness to our community. Cats, on the other hand, are useful feline friends who help lessen the bloated population of rats in our area.
So, no. I don’t think killing a rat is murder. Plus, he killed it because of his sick urges, not because he was trying to lessen the disease in our homes.

TO PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT KILLING A CAT IS NOT AN INHUMAN ACT AND THAT SOME ARE PROBABLY JUST OVERREACTING:
Each living creature has a certain purpose. And that purpose is definitely not to be tortured by some ingenious guy for no rational reason at all. Rats are naturally pests so it’s reasonable for us to kill them. Cats, on the other hand, should be treated with appropriate endearment not just because they’re cute but because it’s their nature to be our PETS (or even FRIENDS to some).
You’re saying that this issue needs not be paid extravagant attention to because it’s just about a cat. True, a cat is an animal with a life far less valuable than a human being’s BUT it has a life nonetheless. Every breath of life is from God. He alone has the right to put an end to it.
We are taught of the absolute superiority of homo sapiens above all creatures but how sure are you that 1000 years from now, there won’t be new species that will emerge? We might even be oblivious to a current existence of some complex creatures from a universe with a dimension which is parallel to ours. The point is, he killed the cat because he does not see the worth of such creatures compared to him being a human being. Imagine some weird creatures showing up one day on your school, claiming that they are God’s most important creatures. So they go around kicking you in the gut until you bleed to death. WOULD YOU LIKE THAT?
TO THOSE WHO TELL US NOT TO JUDGE JC ACCORDING TO THIS SINGLE BLOG POST AND TO CONSIDER THAT HE MIGHT HAVE UNDERGONE SOME DEEP PROBLEMS IN HIS LIFE:
Think. We all have problems in life. We all carry massive struggles and pressures. And yes, the rest of JC’s personality might actually be angelic but this part of him that tortures helpless creatures will overshadow the rest. This is a simple thing yet it is very crucial. It leads us to infer that he is a potential psychopath. If he feels so much satisfaction in doing that to cats, how sure are you that this practice won’t develop to a certain level of insanity enough to slaughter his fellow human beings?
