Alarmed by the out-migration of Filipino doctors, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Department of Health (DOH) offers the Pinoy MD scholarship for those aspiring to become doctors. Benefits of the scholarship include:
1. Tuition Fees
2. Miscellaneous/Laboratory Fees
3. Living Subsidy
4. Lodging Allowance
5. Daily Transportation Allowance
6. Book and Uniform Allowance
for a total of Php 65637.00 per semester (as of June 2008).
Interested applicants may inquire at the medical school of their choice. Participating medical schools and their corresponding slots for 2009 Pinoy MD scholars include:
1. Emilio Aguinaldo Educational Group: 9 slots
2. Our Lady of Fatima University: 5 slots
3. Pamantasan ng Lunsod ng Maynila: 9 slots
4. University of the Philippines Manila: 6 slots
5. Cagayan State University: 9 slots
6. West Visayas State University: 9 slots
7. University of St. La Salle (Region VI): 5 slots

11. Mindanao State University: 14 slots
12. Davao Medical School Foundation: 9 slots
Finally, more details regarding the Pinoy MD scholarship.
Contact details for the schools can be found here.
Btw, they are now accepting participants from all sectors. Priority, however, will still be given to:
1. Applicants who have a combined Gross Family
Income of Php 50,000/month or Php
600,000/annum or lower.
2. Applicants who are part of, or are children of
Barangay Health Workers, government
employees or Indigenous People (IP).
Big downside for this scholarship, however, is the 2-year-service obligation to the government for every year of the scholarship enjoyed. Better be prepared for this!
Additional details can be found in this online brochure.

*for a total of Php 65637.00 per semester*
i would like to ask regarding this quote above, does it mean that their scholarship is fix regardless of school fee requirements? like davao med school has a tuition of 65k while msu has around 12k. does this mean a pinoymd scholar studying from davao med receives a fix amount of money for its tuition fee? does he have to “make abono” some fees. i cannot really understand the breakdown amount for scholarship. i hope you can further elaborate thanks.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
The DOH only gives about 18K per student, but this goes straight to their tuition fee. For MSU, the college takes the 18K because of Auditing issues. I think the other schools subsidize the deficit.
And for the good part: the Php 65637 is all for the scholar’s own use. Tuition is not included here.
March 19th, 2009 at 9:46 am
wow sounds interesting. now its clearer. so you mean those who are pinoymd of msu is actually benefiting 65637 + 18000 per sem? do you think davao med school would subsidize on their own 49k per sem? tnx
March 20th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Yes, but remember the scholar never sees the P18K. Btw, I think DMSF subsidizes the balance. You applying there?
March 24th, 2009 at 10:10 am
does it apply for 2nd year med student for example. im a 1st year medical student however my family seems that they wont be able to support my studies….can i still continue medicine thru pinoy md?
March 24th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Yes, you can through the lateral entry. You can ask your school if they offer this. Btw, I heard that it’s harder to get into the program through this way.
So God speed here…
March 28th, 2009 at 11:19 am
yup im planning in davao as 1st choice. anyway the way you inform you seem pinoy md scholar as well, form what school i guess msu iligan, coz you make it as an example
correct me if im wrong…. thanks for the info.
March 28th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
you mentioned it as an example, so I answered in kind. hehe.
Btw, if you read my earlier posts, you’d arrive at the answer to your question.
March 29th, 2009 at 6:05 am
Is DMSF still open for Pinoy MD scholars?
Are there slots left for june?
March 29th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I wouldn’t know about that. Better contact them by phone or in person. Btw, their contact info can be found through one of the links in the post…
March 30th, 2009 at 4:49 am
i would like to clarify who will make the final screening for the applicants. will it be the school they’ve applied at or will it be DOH and PCSO?
March 30th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
It would be the school. The DOH and PCSO would act only if the applicant has been recommended by the school.
Application for this scholarship is done through the schools.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:20 am
good morning regarding the fatima slots, we inquire about it and they told us “wala silang slots for it
April 12th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Sorry for the late reply. Internet connection at the resort where they housed the scholars was too slow.
Btw, I’m sorry to hear about that. The slots must have already been given to others. Btw, I met scholars from Fatima at the resort.
April 12th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
is the scholarship only fixed to the schools mentioned above?
in the requirement, it says that if ever accepted, we will work for every 2 yr of study, then it is 10 years including internship? thank you
April 12th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Yes. Only those schools offer the PinoyMD scholarship. Payback for the scholarship is 2 years for every year of the scholarship enjoyed. This is the DOH’s way of ensuring that there would still be doctors in the Philippines.
April 12th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Where can I get the application form? I’ll be applying for PLM. Thanks.
April 13th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Different schools have different application forms. You can get the PLM application form at PLM.
April 13th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Im a nursing grad (cumlaude with high rating in the board exam) and i wanted to be a doctor and apply for the scholarship but the problem is both my parents aren’t bhw or work in the DOH, either. My mother is a teacher and my father is a municipal councilor. I wanted to be a doctor because there is no doctor in our municipality in Northern Samar; and i wanted to serve my people there. I don’t have any plan of going abroad despite the job in the United Kingdom that is being offered to me. My future in UK would be very promising but still i wanted to serve my town. Can i still apply for the scholarship?
April 14th, 2009 at 4:21 am
thank you…
what are the other schools that still have slots for these scholarship grant?….
i cannot go to the available schools in manila since i am here in baguio…
thank you…
April 16th, 2009 at 5:52 am
magandang hapon.
as is parin po ba yung budget per scholar (per sem) para sa incoming academic year?
April 17th, 2009 at 10:35 am
hmmm. nice questions. But I have to be blunt.
bahay, allowances have never arrived on time. They are supposed to be given per month, but that has never happened. We get the money in bulk. The allowance, btw, is not enough if you live in Manila. You’d really need outside support if you take this scholarship esp. for the first few months. Btw, some schools in Manila offer better alternative scholarships.
April 17th, 2009 at 10:37 am
mia, the schools mentioned above are the only ones who offer the scholarship.
April 17th, 2009 at 10:38 am
TREVORE, of course you can. Who says only children of BHWs are qualified? EVERYONE IS QUALIFIED. Those people who meet the above criteria are just given higher priority…
April 18th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
This is the best that I have read this week. Great work. We are putting together a list of USEFUL websites, to be formed into a directory that addresses the needs of folks who are looking for information in this field. Please check out the site (it is still being developed) and please email us with any suggestions. http://usmle-usmle.org

Hello guys. I’m an applicant of the PMD scholarship at MSU College of Medicine. The interview is on-going. I was one of the four who was first interviewed. As of now, there are already almost 80 applicants applying for a slot at the college. The number of pmd applicants of the 80 aspirants was not revealed by the college but I guess the competition would be very stiff. I was told that the final screening would be done by the DOH head office. However, I read from here that it would be done by the school. In that case, what would probably be the school’s criteria for choosing the final qualified scholars?
I’d also like to ask when the list of pmd qualified scholars will be posted and where will it be posted.
Thank you very much.:D
April 20th, 2009 at 5:49 am
a, okay.
salamat.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:09 am
The school would reveal the results eventually. Hmmm. In my case, I knew I was in the program the day I enrolled. I had the supposed tuition fee in my wallet that day, but had to return it to my parents later. hehe.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:10 am
WOW! 80 applicants?! That sounds stiff. God bless in this endeavor!
Btw, I think GRADES are top priority for the screening…
April 21st, 2009 at 3:17 am
i am a 3rd yr pharmacy student planning to apply for this scholarship. may i just asked what are the requirements needed like grades and the like or is there any?
April 21st, 2009 at 11:25 am
Ask the schools…
May 5th, 2009 at 5:44 am
My sister wants me to proceed to medicine. She said she’s going to finance my schooling but I still want to apply for scholarship to lessen her burden. but I’ll be going to med school on next year June ’10 aince I wasn’t able to take the nmat exam last dec. thus I have to review and take the nmat this dec. If I apply now, can it still be credited for next or I’ll just apply on next year when I will about to enroll..
May 5th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
You have to ask the schools for that.
May 6th, 2009 at 9:09 am
does the program accept lateral entries?
May 6th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
yes.
May 8th, 2009 at 1:40 am
can i ask about the return service? does that also count for the residency? and what would be the nature of the job assigned to the scholars? will the government assign them to places?
sorry for the questions, im an incoming med student deciding.. i just wanna know where this scholarship would lead me…
May 8th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
In actuality, nobody knows what the terms really are. Rumor has it that residency is counted, that the government itself would assign jobs, and assign them to “places”. The first batch are yet to finish their PGI, and after the boards, who knows..
May 15th, 2009 at 4:28 am
i’ve been trying to look for a scholarship and i’m so glad i bumped to this site. i’d like to ask if there are specific schedules for the application this year. Is it still ongoing or do i have to wait for next year? Thank you.
May 15th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Only the schools can answer your question..
May 17th, 2009 at 12:59 am
I would like to inquire about the PINOY MD scholarship and the specific schedule for the application and to whom to address the application and until when this program (PINOY MD scholarship) end.thank you and more power.
May 17th, 2009 at 9:19 am
this entry along with the comments cleared some issues I had in mind.. thank you for posting!
May 20th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
sir. what if the school we are enrolled in right now is not included in your list.. can we still apply for the scholarship?
May 20th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
No. That would be useless unless the school applies and is approved by the DOH to support Pinoy MD scholars.
May 27th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Elow sir… nice day a head.. when i a friend of mine told to me about the pinoy doctor scholarship, without hesitation i tried to find your site… it’s my dream to take medicine but my family cannot support me to go to school for medicine (they belong to indigenous people) .. also im here in ilocos sur and the schools that offering medicine are far away from our place… my parent ca’nt afford to send me to manila to apply for MD… i need your help sir/ma’m… by the way I’m a graduate of BSN through scholarship also…..
June 6th, 2009 at 4:51 am
Does the scholarship accept married applicant?
June 6th, 2009 at 10:27 am
yes. there are a number of married Pinoy MD scholars. Btw, they were married before they applied. I have yet to see those who were married after being accepted. =)
June 6th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
bakit po hindi included sa pdf ang requirements for southwestern?
may info po ba kayo bout that?
June 7th, 2009 at 3:58 am
Glad to know doh has this kind of scholarship for aspiring doctors…
My question is, if ever along the way you ddn’t meet of the standard of the school. For example u’r already in 2nd year & u fail in 1 subject. What will be the consequence?
June 7th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
@Dodge: South West is the latest med school to accept Pinoy MD scholars. You’d have to ask them personally for these details.
@Weng:Last I heard, the scholar is set on probationary mode for the next year. He/she can still enjoy the benefits of the scholarship in his second year, but cannot enjoy it on the next year if he/she is not promoted to the third year. He/she must pay the tuition for the probationary year. If he/she manages to pass everything, and is promoted to the third year, he/she may again enjoy the full scholarship.
June 8th, 2009 at 7:04 am
among the schools listed for pinoy md, which school/university is the best second to UP-Manila? I know I can’t surpass the cut-off in that school, so lets exclude it. I thought, all the while, CIM & UST are included in the list. So, which school is much better? Please enlighten me.. thanks..
June 8th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I’m no judge as to what school lies “second best” to UP-Manila, or even if UP-Manila is the best school to take Medicine. Ask the alumni of the different schools, but I’m sure most of the answers you’ll get will be the same: their own schools.
In choosing a med school, I suggest you bear in mind what kind of training you want, history of board exam results, and most importantly the opinions of their alumni (Who would want to enroll in a school where even their own products curse them?).
Happy Hunting!
June 13th, 2009 at 10:47 am
nice site you got in here..are u a PINOY MD scholar? seems like your really familiar with the program. i really appreciate your effort to spread the scholarship to those who are aspiring to be doctors.
if your a pinoy md please be informed that we have our unofficial forum site where they can also post questions. sorry forgot the site rest assured im gonna post it with your permission of course
oh and by the way im from the second batch of scholars and from what ive heard from the 4th batch (this year’s batch), they’re the last batch
i do hope it isnt true. but at the rate thing are going im starting to believe its true
June 13th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Thanx.
Yep. I’m a Pinoy MD scholar from batch 3. Nice to hear from a fellow scholar. We must have met in Cebu this summer.
Btw, do post the link for the forums. I didn’t even know we had one. LOL. I know there’s a Yahoo Group, but not everyone there is active.
Anyway, I don’t think the scholarship program would stop with the 4th batch. That’s what they said last time. The DOH and PCSO, if they do get their terms right, have an agreement to pursue the program for 10 years or so.
June 14th, 2009 at 7:11 am
have to contact zsa alvares, former NAPS president rest assured ill post it. from what school are u? not sure if weve met personally but yes i was in cebu last april. we have separate seminars.
i dont wanna say it here but the news of the allowance to be released on september is dissapointing. we have to fish out from our own pockets to cover all the expenses. and books dont come really cheap. i do believe the aspiring applicants should also know that alloawances are not as timely as before
June 14th, 2009 at 11:21 am
MSU.
You might know my schoolmates.
Hmmm. September? Just like last year. Oh well.. To think we had hoped PCSO and DOH would have solved their differences and patched up.
In Cebu, they told us feel that we were so special –that we were the hope of the nation, etc. Yet the problem is they don’t exactly show that to us. It just makes me feel that we are like bastard children of PCSO and DOH –unwanted but whom they are forced by law to support. Oh well…
June 16th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
hi! im an aspiring medicine student and is very curious about the Pinoy MD scholarship.but quite hesitant as well..my classmate recently enrolled at SWU and is yet a first yr student. she has been qualified as one of the Pinoy MD scholars of the school and has paid only about P2000 during the enrollment..im quite confused coz it said that the full tuition coverage of the scholarship is only Php 65637.00 per semester, but SWU’s tuition is almost $96,000.00..so we were wondering if the sholarship will cover the full tuition and if student will really only pay like less than P5000/semester? or will it be just for incoming freshman?..coz if thats the case that Pinoy MD scholars will pay only less, then i might pursue medicine at SWU..
June 17th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
The Pinoy MD scholarship would shoulder only Php 18,000 or so. The rest of the tuition fee would be shouldered by the school. Thus the Pinoy MD scholar would not just be a scholar of the DOH and PCSO, he would also be a scholar of the school he is enrolled in.
Btw, the Pph 65,637 is given directly to the student. It does not pay for his tuition,. It does, however, cover his book allowance, living allowance, transportation, etc.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:19 am
hello..im interested with this pinoy md program..but first, where can i take the nmat? is there a school/ review center offering review for this test? may i know how much is the registration fee for this test? thanx..
June 18th, 2009 at 4:25 am
mr?/ms? admin..may i know if how many pinoy md scholars came from cordillera? (if you are informed..if not, it’s ok..)
June 18th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
there are a number of Pinoy MD scholars from cordillera. They usually study at Cagayan State University. I don’t know their exact number, btw.
June 28th, 2009 at 6:00 am
i’m interested with the program of PMD.
is there a need to take and pass the NMAT first before applying for the said scholarship?
thanks!
June 28th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
yep.
July 13th, 2009 at 6:08 am
are their any qualifications needed aside from passing the nmat exam?
July 14th, 2009 at 7:39 am
is pinoy m.d. scholarship would still be available the next school year?
July 15th, 2009 at 3:32 am
hindi pala included ang UE?btw narereimburse ba ang expenses ng NMAT?can i apply now for PMD next year?tnx
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Good day. Where can i find the nearest DOH Center for Health Development here in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro? Please help. I realy want to take medicine course. I am a son of a BHW. I am now a registered nurse but i don;t want to go abroad. Am i qualified? thank you and God bless.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Hello. Follow up po, yun po bang 2 years na service in the gov’t per year of the enjoyed scholarship ay paid din nila? i mean, makatatanggap ba ng sweldo ang magseserve? Salamat po. Thank u for all.
July 25th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
admin, I’m an aspiring MD, can you tell me where can I apply for the NMAT?btw I’m a nsg. student, can i take the exam? when and where is it held? tnx !
August 2nd, 2009 at 10:04 am
clear a lot of questions in my mind…
but, if ever i will be accepted as a scholar?do i have to maintain na a grade? like 80 +?
August 2nd, 2009 at 1:14 pm
hmmm. All your questions can be answered by the schools. DOH gives much leeway to them. Nevertheless, you also have to be endorsed by your DOH representative in order to avail of the scholarship.
@NMAT guy: I wouldn’t know about that. Please contact CEM.
August 6th, 2009 at 7:28 am
if ever i’ll take the nmat, and yet didn’t even pass the 40-rate for cut-off, will i still be considered for the program even if i, too, works at the DOH, and if they also endorse me to the nearer school/university in the city? well, im considering dmsf or west vis… thanx…
August 7th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
paiba iba, eh. Sila bahala kung ilan talaga yung kinukuha. Pero later in the year naman nila nilalabas yun..
August 11th, 2009 at 5:43 am
Can I apply as Pinoy MD in 2010?
August 14th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
hi.. 1st, i just want to thank u for creating this site. it cleared all my unanswered questions wd regards to pinoy md program.. As to how many slots nxt year, i hope ull give us an update as soon as u have it. DMSF is my 1st choice.. ahmm… pang ilang batch na ba ang nxt school yar.??
August 23rd, 2009 at 2:56 am
Hi! I’m a PinoyMD scholar. Do you have any idea on the date of the release of our allowance?
August 24th, 2009 at 11:38 am
gud day i just want to ask if kung pwede ba akong mag apply kahit na auntie ko ang government employee? gusto ko po kasi talagang makapag aral eh gusto ko po kasing magkaroon ng doktor dito sa bario namin………….. maraming salamat po
August 25th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
@tomas anyone can apply but priority is given to children of government employees.
@Mark same problem here. They promise us everything but give us nothing… I wonder if the court could force them to pay for the inconvenience they’re giving the scholars.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:15 am
i wonder about the NMAT exam, it covers most in communications while its an exam for medical studies, yet i have pass the NMAT with 93 in percentile and it seems like an entrance exam in a low class university, just a matter of depression, i studied five years of premedicine and eating all those anatomy, pathology, cardiology, neurology, and dying with kenisiology, physiology, and many medical science, huh, then the exam would be easy as NCAE for highschool, what kind of standard does the CEM are looking for? what was the use of my medical subjects?…. so annoying when i apply for pinoyMD, school reject me for i have only 2.34 GWA in my pre-med yet, so lucky i get into a private university scholarship….. goodluck to soon NMAT takers. cause NMAT is so boring…..heheh
August 27th, 2009 at 11:10 am
so sad i was rejected by, pinoy med grant just because of my GWA of 2.3, with the NMAT rating of 93%, i was realy shock with the NMAT exams it only covers with communications and psychology and a little health science, so boring exam, yet so easy not even comparable with the ACET of ateneo in english likely, i was definitely annoyed with the NMAT exams, what was the use of my medical subjects huhu, i even take anatomy, physiology, kenisiology, pathology, general medical condit’ns, general surgecal conditions, histology and none of this areas where asked in NMAT, what kind of medical students are they looking?
August 28th, 2009 at 8:51 am
so theres no real schedule on when the allowances are to be given? parang mahirap ata yan ah… can scholars use the dorms of the schools?
August 30th, 2009 at 11:09 am
@rinoxieng yeah. NMAT is basically basic..
August 30th, 2009 at 11:10 am
@rosette Contract says one thing, but they pretend as if it doesn’t exist..
September 1st, 2009 at 4:53 am
yes so basic, but i would like to extend my deepest congratulations to those who where accepted in pinoyMD you guys where so lucky maybe… what year are you now? Im wishing to serve the nation thru pinoyMD sana but i failed, im a faculty development scholar in a medschool here in cebu, yet my return service is to teach after having license not to and to work in their base hospital, not in public hospitals,,, huhuhu pinoyMD’s your the hope of healthier nation…. go
September 1st, 2009 at 4:54 am

to tintin: thier is no second best to UPM or even best medschool, its with the students themselves, although UST is known for long time teaching medicine since RIZAL, its not actually the best school, survey’s only projects on what the schools have and not what is the best, admin have a point ask some alumni of UST and CIM and others… CIM professors doesn’t brag their products then, they were proud of their products. Many students chose CIM because it is known, not becuase it is the best…
September 8th, 2009 at 5:36 am
so, where should i apply for the scholarship? in the respective schools?
what rate should i have in NMAT for me to be qualified for the scholarship?
September 8th, 2009 at 5:59 am
any UP manila med peeps here? coz i called their admissions office and inquired on how to apply for the pinoymd scholarship and they said they only entertain those ppl who are already med students there.. and referred me to the doh website. ive been looking at the doh website for hours now and i dont find anything like that written there.. can u guys enlighten me plz? pano magapply dun thru pinoymd? thnxxxx
September 9th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
@rosette: maybe UPM only entertains those student who enrolled at UP systems intramed program, these student maybe given high priorities by UP systems due to their good grades, these programs entitles students to take up medicine by a 7-year time, they were not just good, better, or best , but they were brilliant, thus these students were top passers of UPCAT and need not to argue with UP because they have already chosen their scholars in terms of good academic standing and less fortunate financially.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
@ rico: only 40% but UP needs above 90% not as a scholar but as a norma student,,, gudluck
September 16th, 2009 at 4:56 am
congratulations to those graduates with latin honors…. your life shouldn’t end up with your baccalaureate degree,,,, St. Luke’s (William Quasha Memorial College of Medicine) offers scholarship to those students having high honors and 90% in NMAT, CIM offers also the same scholarships, CIM also have the Faculty developments scholarships, not same with the privilege of PinoyMD but at least you can make your dreams came true,,,,,ADMU,DLSU,UST,UE have the financial aids assistance try your lucks then,,, there are more than PinoyMD.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:56 am
Gud morning sir,
Sir, Ala po bang participating school dito sa baguio for Pinoy MD. Kac po masyadong malayo po sa mga naenumerate na school.. salamat po sir.
September 29th, 2009 at 7:47 am
im a pinoy md scholar and im very thankful that i was given the opportunity to reach my lifelong dream.
however, being a pinoy md scholar is also kind of a burden. i thought that since the government shoulders almost all of the expenses, my parents would be freed from making utang from others. on the contrary, they were pushed to the limits just trying to meet my expenses especially since im from the province. just a cue, imagine how expensive all those med books are, your uniforms, your monthly rentals, your food, etc… although these may be reimbursed once the allowance is released, the initial expenses is horrible.
let us say the allowance is 60,000, but since it is not released yet, you make utang of the same amount. but, you will not be paying the same amount once it is due because of the interest. that means, your allowance hardly covers all your initial expenses. worst, you’ll make utang again for the 2nd sem because again, the allowance is delayed. whats the use of giving us scholarship if the system itself defeats the purpose and the scholars themselves end up worrying where to get the money to plug the hole.
is there someone out there who can help us in this predicament? does President GMA know about these? i’ve read that this is one of her pet project maybe she can do something about it. is there someone out there who can help us bring our sentiment to the president?
i know that with her power, she can just issue a directive to the officials of DOH and PCSO that the allowance of the pinoy md scholars be released automatically at the start of every school year. or maybe someone lobby at the congress to pass a law allowing the same.
in sum, the intention of the government is brilliant as it gives the underprivileged the opportunity to reach their dreams of becoming a doctor one day. BUT, with all due respect… the system SUCKS!!! and im trapped on it… i hope that there will be a change.

im a pinoy md scholar and im very grateful to that. however, being a pinoy md scholar also has its downside.
At first, I was very happy that with the scholarship, I would be able to reach my lifelong dream without worrying where to get the money to pay my expenses since the government shoulders almost all of it. However, comes now the start of class and no allowance yet, my parents were forced to make utang just to meet my expenses. Just imagine how expensive those med books are, the uniforms, the monthly rental and the food, etc. these lie heavily on me since im from the province and my parents just tend a small store as a source of income.
Let us say that the allowance allotted is 60,000, so im forced to make a 60,000 utang to cover my initial expenses. However, I would not be paying the same amount once it is due since there will now be interest on top of it. Hence, the allowance, once released barely covers the initial expenses and im still forced to come up additional funds just to pay the interest. Worst, I would have to make the same utang again once the 2nd sem starts and the cycle continues.
Is there someone out there who can help us pinoy md scholars in this predicament? Does the gracious President GMA care for her scholars since I’ve read that this is her pet project? Will someone out there help us plead our sentiment to the President?
I believe that the president with her power can just make a directive that the allowance of the pinoy md scholars be released at the start of every school year. I hope there will be changes, God willing.

sagot ng DOH/PCSO ang 1 part, sagot ng school yung iba. Parang scholar ng Pinoy MD at DMSF yung DMSF Pinoy MD scholar.. Bayad lahat courtesy of school and DOH/PCSO, at may allowance pa courtesy of DOH/PCSO.
December 15th, 2009 at 5:20 am
ask ko lang po, til kelan po application for scholarship for the coming school year 2010? does it have to take any exam?
when it will be? any updates please… tnx.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:20 am
hi po!i’m so interested about the said scholarship.where can i get the application form po?is it in the med school that i were planning to go through?
December 21st, 2009 at 5:08 pm
@harold and miyam. You better check with the medical school of your choice. Application and acceptance to the scholarship depends on the medical school.. The DOH merely accepts the recommendation of the schools..
January 3rd, 2010 at 3:14 pm
hi, i have only taken the lat december, i did not do well to make to my first choice of school, but sure made it to be a pinoy MD scholar, in terms of rating… well it’s got to be work-related because am a nurse and i just had no time to review..
anyway, i just want to ask, what if in my 3rd yr in the college, my family would be able to finance my studies already, can i already quit the scholarship and just be of service to the number of years i spent?
thank you very much…i hope for your response..this forum is so great!more power and happy new year!

hi, i have only taken the last december nmat exam, i did not do well to make to my first choice of school, but sure made it to be a pinoy MD scholar, in terms of rating… well it’s got to be work-related because am a nurse and i just had no time to review, to think that those given in the exam are for high school studs…i was really expecting medical stuffs, cause for that, for sure i will still make it better…
i am a grad of SLU, but i just can’t afford to go back and enroll in their college of med..my sister would want me too, but i am too ashamed to let he shoulder med schooling…
anyway, i just want to ask, what if in my 3rd yr in the college, my family would be able to finance my studies already, can i already quit the scholarship and just be of service to the number of years i spent?

Hi. Im a graduate of Medical Technology and already have a license. I am quite confused though of how I can prove that we only have a monthly income not more than 50,000php if my parents are separated? My father is a Doctor and doesn’t support my study for Medicine. My mother was a Med Tech but has quit her job without retiring. Can you please advise me of how to provide the proper documents to qualify for the scholarship.
January 8th, 2010 at 6:50 am

January 14th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
Hi to the administrator… you should know how much of a blessing this site is to me… It seems you are the only one who can give me a decent advice..
I am very interested in applying for a PINOY MD scholarship.. actually, I am more than just interested.. I am desperate..
It is impossible for me to go to med school without this program..
I feel that I am eligible for the scholarship program as both my parents work under DOH, my father is the Provincial Health Team leader of Davao del Sur.. HOWEVER, currently, my biggest concern is that, I am 7 months pregnant.. and I am planning to submit my application next week… I would just like to know if appearing pregnant during the interviews could be a reason to for me NOT to be granted the scholarship…

gud day! I have just already taken the nmat. I would like to ask if Pinoy md scholarship is now officially available? What schools are being offered with this scholarship? thanks & more power.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:54 am
good day! found this site while browsing though the net. I am a Pinoy MD scholar at WVSU (iloilo), 1st year. uhm, during our last meeting with the DOH folks, sabi nila, d pa daw sure if there is an opening for the next batch. Application forms are given by schools who accept Pinoy MD scholars, or you can get them at DOH office.. (i think). And yes, like yahiko said, allowances are never on time, you should have an outside source where you could get/ borrow money while allowances are not yet available.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:01 am
for more information about the scholarship, you can visit this link. ^_^ http://home.doh.gov.ph/dp/dpo2009-2327.pdf

April 20th, 2010 at 1:09 am
I would like to ask if the average grade is based from 1st year to 4th year, or only the grade in 4th year, because I found it hard to have 2.0 general average in 4th year. And if there is a condition if you are a nursing graduate or a license nurse?
May 1st, 2010 at 9:29 am
gud pm sir…

Is it still open p po ba talaga?? want to confirm lang po
May 17th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
hi! if there really is no pinoy md scholarship anymore, how come schools, you know those who have the scholarship last school year, are still accepting applicants for the pinoy md scholarship,,,
i applied at one and ’till now they still can’t tell me if i’m accepted or not since DOH hasn’t communicated with them yet,,,
i think this is very unfair because all my credentials are with them already and i don’t want to pull them out since i am holding on to the possibility of there still having a scholarship,,,
May 18th, 2010 at 11:47 am
hi! may i know the list of accredited schools for 2010 and their corresponding slots available? how bout for 2011? im planning to take the NMAT exam this december.

June 1st, 2010 at 5:28 am
will there be 2010 Pinoy MD scholars???
June 5th, 2010 at 2:40 am
i would like to know more about the scholarship program. as what i have read, the scholarship shoulders only 18k which goes directly to the tuition of the scholar and the said 65k+ goes to the student to cover boarding, books, and other allowances. so basically, we really don’t spend anything? or we do but not that steep, making it hard for us to come up with the said amount? is there any age limit for this program? i had some units on my biology course which i never finished. is there an online application form that we can fill-up and print so that it would be easier for us to avail of this program? i am very much interested to avail of this and be a doctor and just live here in our country. thank you very much.
June 10th, 2010 at 7:43 am
wen will we receive the notice regarding the next batch of the qualified scholars??
we(applicants) just need an earlier notice for us to settle things before the start of classes. thank you.hoping for your immediate reply..godbless

July 7th, 2010 at 7:50 am
i just want to ask if pinoy md still accepts applicants for 2011….can aspiring med students just apply at DOH or at its co-sponsors and they will be the ones to screen and recommend the qualified applicants to the med schools they wish to enroll in,.. anyway these departments and organizations are the ones funding the applicants and not the school itself..it is up then for the student to do his/her best so as that he/she can meet the minimum requirements of the school…atleast he/she already has the assurance of the scholarship…other med schools would tend to take the students for granted, they will collect money from the entrance and any kind of exams they administer then they just drop the applicant if his/her financial background is not good..when can the poor aspiring med student get a chance to study medicine with the aid of a scholarship when the school is very subjective..its priority is different from what the pinoy md program prioritizes..they just don’t go together..too bad…
i want to know if the program is still going to pursue..i’m very much interested..i wish to apply for next year,2011…thank you very much.
July 8th, 2010 at 5:07 am

October 5th, 2010 at 11:52 am
Hi. I just want to ask if there are available slots for this year or by early next year? Thanks.
October 6th, 2010 at 10:33 am
@jun: i’m a wvsu med student and the nmat cut off here is 60% and even if you’ll get an nmat rating of around 60%, you wont be assured of being admitted ‘coz most of the applicants has much higher rating so you really have to have an nmat rating much higher compared to the cut off one….:D

Good evening everyone! we’ve recently had the news that PCSO won’t be offering this scholarship this year.. There are already five batches of pinoy md scholars, and sad to say the 5th batch chosen last 2011 is the last..
Let’s just pray that those in authority will come offer this scholarship again this year to help more aspiring physicians.

Hello po! I’ve met a pinoy md awhile ago and encouraged me to do the same thing. Hope that PNOY will not hold the PCSO’s financial assistance this year so that there will be more pinoy mds. I’m a nurse but it’s really my frustration of not taking med for my parents are both government doctors .My mom is still working but my dad is already a pensioner so they’re having hesitations and doubts that I may not be able to finish med in the future as the cost is increasing yearly. So I’m looking for opportunities like this one. Currently I’m in the RNHeals program, hopefully next year I will be able to avail this program if PNOY would be open minded to this one. God bless to all of us!
